President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday administered the oath of office to the newly appointed Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), **Dr Aminu Yusuf**, two commissioners of the agency, and five Federal Permanent Secretaries. The ceremony was held moments before the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House, Abuja.
Tinubu arrived at the Council Chamber at exactly **1:31 pm**, where the citations of the appointees were read before the formal oath-taking process began. At **1:42 pm**, the five permanent secretaries—**Abdulkarim Ibrahim**, **Dr John Ezeamama**, **Dr Abdul-Sule Garba**, **Dr Isiaku Mohammed** and **Dr Ukaire Chigbowu**—took their oaths of office and signed the official register.
At **1:47 pm**, Dr Aminu Yusuf, who was appointed on October 9, officially assumed office as Chairman of the National Population Commission. He was sworn in alongside two newly appointed commissioners, including **Dr Tonga Betara** representing Yobe State.
The NPC plays a critical role in overseeing Nigeria’s censuses, demographic data management, and vital registration systems—key components for national planning and development strategies.
Following the swearing-in ceremonies, the Federal Executive Council observed a minute of silence in honour of **Ambassador Joy Ogwu**, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, who passed away on **October 13, 2025**, at the age of 79.
The tribute preceded the commencement of the council’s **eighth FEC meeting of the year**.
