President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) following the confirmation of its members by the Senate on December 16.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Dr Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni has been appointed as the Chairman of NERC.
Oseni, who joined the commission as a commissioner in January 2017 and later served as Vice Chairman, officially assumed office as chairman on December 1, 2025.
His tenure will run until the completion of his statutory 10-year term, in line with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023.
Dr Yusuf Ali has been appointed as the Vice Chairman of the commission.
Ali, who was first appointed as a commissioner in February 2022, also assumed his new role on December 1, 2025, and will serve until the end of his first term.
The statement listed other members of the reconstituted board as follows:
Shatti and Akpeneye were first appointed in January 2017, while Bello joined the commission in December 2020. Dr Chidi Ike was appointed in February 2022 and is currently serving his first term.
Dr Fouad Animashaun, an energy economist, brings extensive regulatory experience to the board, having previously served as Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
President Tinubu charged the reconstituted NERC board to deepen and consolidate reforms in Nigeria’s electricity sector.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged the board members of NERC to deepen and consolidate the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector, in strict alignment with the letter and spirit of the Electricity Act, 2023,” the statement read.
