PDP crisis: Makinde bloc issues Wike, others expulsion certificates
PDP Crisis Deepens: Turaki-Led Bloc Issues Expulsion Certificates to Wike, Fayose, Others | www.cjsoftflix.com
The ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escalated on Tuesday as the
Kabiru Turaki-led faction, backed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, announced the issuance of expulsion certificates to
Minister of the FCT Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor
Ayodele Fayose, and nine other members previously expelled by the PDP national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
During a briefing at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Turaki displayed the certificates, emphasizing that the move was necessary to uphold the decisions of the party’s highest organ and to prevent violations of Nigerian law regarding dual party membership.
He stated,
“We have taken note that Nigerian law frowns on dual membership of political parties. Now that they are no longer members of our party, we have issued them certificates of expulsion.”
Certificates Dispatched to All Affected Members
Turaki showcased the expulsion certificates individually, confirming that all 11 had been dispatched via courier. Among the recipients were
Senator Samuel Anyanwu,
Honourable Umaru Bature, SAN
Kamarudeen Ajibade, Senator
Mao Ohuabunwa, and Chief
Dan Orbih.
He urged the
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Nigerian Police Force, and other security agencies to acknowledge that the listed individuals were no longer members of the PDP.
On Governor Adeleke and Freedom of Association
Addressing concerns about
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Turaki highlighted that any citizen has the constitutional right to switch political platforms.
He explained,
“If Adeleke decides—either personally or via a representative—that he has withdrawn or refuses to make himself available, that will form part of the report we receive. He is free to move on; he is free to leave any political party.”
2026 Osun Governorship Preparations
On the party’s readiness for the 2026 Osun governorship election, Turaki assured that the National Working Committee (NWC) was satisfied with progress so far.
He said the congresses in Osun State to select ad hoc delegates were reviewed, confirmed, and approved. Turaki emphasized that the primary processes were being conducted in an
orderly, transparent, fair, and rancour-free manner, describing it as “vintage PDP.”
He also addressed ongoing litigation involving the party, particularly cases related to the closure of party offices such as Legacy House and Wadata Plaza, asserting that the party was on sound legal footing.
Scrutiny of Handover Notes and Ambassadors
Turaki revealed that the new NWC was meticulously examining handover notes from the previous leadership to ensure continuity. He also mentioned that former governors
Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and
Okezie Ikpeazu, recently nominated as ambassadors, had yet to officially notify the party of their nominations.
Criticism of Federal Government
The Turaki-led bloc took the opportunity to criticize the
Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government over insecurity in the country. Turaki lamented the spate of kidnappings and killings, arguing that Nigerians live in “perpetual fear” in their workplaces, homes, and streets.
He added,
“Governors are called chief security officers of their states yet have no control over military and security operations within their states. This situation needs to be overhauled.”
