No Christian, Muslim genocide in Nigeria – Tinubu

Tinubu Again Denies Claims of Christian Genocide in Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu has once again dismissed claims that Christians are being targeted for killing in Nigeria, insisting that the country is not witnessing any form of religious genocide against Christians or Muslims.

The President stated that Nigeria’s security challenges are rooted in historical, economic and criminal factors, rather than religious persecution. He made this known on Friday in Abuja while declaring open the Nasrul-Lahi-l-Fatih Society (NASFAT) 8th Biennial Conference and Annual General Meeting.

The conference was themed “Building Resilience in a Changing World: The Role of Faith and Community.” Tinubu was represented at the event by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.

According to the President, Nigeria is grappling with terrorism driven largely by criminality and extremism, stressing that victims of insecurity cut across all religious lines.

Tinubu Responds to International Allegations

Tinubu’s remarks come weeks after former United States President Donald Trump alleged that Christians were being persecuted in Nigeria and threatened possible U.S. military intervention if the situation was not addressed.

Trump had also designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” a claim that generated significant controversy both locally and internationally. In response, the Federal Government dispatched a delegation led by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to engage U.S. lawmakers and clarify Nigeria’s security realities.

“No Christian or Muslim Genocide” – Tinubu

Quoting Tinubu’s message at the NASFAT programme, reports monitored by www.cjsoftflix.com noted that the President described the genocide allegations as unfounded, false and harmful.

“In recent times, the Federal Government and other persons of goodwill have had to address unfounded allegations. These allegations are not only false but harmful, and capable of inflaming passions and disrupting the peaceful coexistence we continue to build as a nation,” Tinubu said.

He added that Nigeria does not promote or tolerate policies that persecute any religious group, stressing that both Muslims and Christians have suffered from terrorism.

“Muslims and Christians alike have been victims of terrorism in Nigeria. Muslims and Christians alike stand shoulder to shoulder in condemning violence from any quarter,” he stated.

Reaffirming his stance, Tinubu said:

“As President, I reiterate with all sense of responsibility and fidelity to the Constitution that there is no Christian genocide in Nigeria, and there is no Muslim genocide in Nigeria. What we have is terrorism driven by criminality and extremism—challenges we are working tirelessly to overcome.”

Call for Unity and Religious Tolerance

The President assured Nigerians that his administration remains committed to national unity, religious freedom and the protection of every human life.

He urged citizens to reject divisive narratives, whether originating from within or outside the country.

“We must not allow internal or external forces to sow discord or promote dangerous stereotypes about our beloved nation,” he warned.

Tinubu described Nigeria’s diversity as a strength, noting that peaceful coexistence among people of different faiths has always defined the nation.

Commendation for NASFAT

The President also commended NASFAT for its role in promoting moderation, tolerance and national cohesion.

“Your teachings on moderation, tolerance and service to humanity provide pathways for resolving conflicts and deepening national unity,” he said.

“Let us continue to promote moderation, peaceful coexistence and respect for our diversity. Our differences are a divine design, not a source of conflict.”

Keynote Message

The keynote speaker at the conference, Dr Nurudeen Lemu, urged Muslims to remain steadfast in faith and optimistic despite the country’s challenges.
