Tinubu Meets Service Chiefs as Nigerian Military Intensifies Operations Nationwide
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday evening held a closed-door meeting with Nigeria’s Service Chiefs at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja, amid growing security concerns across the country.
The high-level security meeting began at approximately 6:01 pm local time, with the Service Chiefs arriving at the Villa’s forecourt before being ushered into the President’s office for deliberations.
This engagement marks President Tinubu’s first formal meeting with the military high command since the swearing-in of General Christopher Musa (retd.) as the new Minister of Defence on December 4, 2025.
Although the official agenda of the meeting was not disclosed, it comes against the backdrop of rising security challenges, including the continued captivity of 115 students kidnapped from a Catholic boarding school in November and the recent approval by Nigeria’s Senate for the deployment of troops to Benin Republic following an attempted coup in the neighbouring country.
Nigerian Air Force Strikes Terrorist Hideouts in Borno
The presidential engagement coincided with intensified military actions, as the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) conducted precision air interdiction missions at Dabar Masara, a known terrorist stronghold in the Southern Tumbuns of Borno State, on December 14, 2025.
The operation was carried out by the Air Component of Joint Task Force Operation HADIN KAI, targeting a terrorist workshop and vehicles concealed under dense vegetation and identified as an active logistics hub for insurgent activities.
According to the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, post-operation assessments confirmed the destruction of the vehicles and the neutralisation of terrorist elements operating within the area.
Ejodame emphasised that the NAF’s precision, intelligence-driven air operations remain critical to disrupting terrorist networks and strengthening security across the North-East region.
The Southern Tumbuns, a vast network of marshlands surrounding Lake Chad, has long served as a major hideout for terrorist groups. The Nigerian military continues to sustain coordinated air and ground operations in the area to degrade insurgent capabilities and deny them freedom of movement.
JTF Records Major Successes in Kaduna and Plateau
In further security developments, troops of the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace carried out a series of successful operations in Kaduna and Plateau States between December 11 and 13, 2025.
According to the JTF spokesman, Major Samson Zhakom, the operations resulted in the neutralisation of several kidnappers and the rescue of multiple abducted victims across various flashpoints.
- December 11: Troops conducted clearance operations in Dangoma and Godogodo villages in Jema’a LGA, Kaduna State, neutralising three notorious kidnappers while others fled.
- December 12: A covert operation in Plateau State led to the neutralisation of a notorious kidnapper and gunrunner linked to crimes in Bassa and Jos North LGAs. Recovered items included a pistol, ammunition, a dagger, a mobile phone, and cash.
- December 13: Troops foiled an impending attack at Gidan-Saki Village, Zangon Kataf LGA, Kaduna State, forcing criminals to abandon their mission.
- Same day: In Jengre, Plateau State, an ambush following the kidnapping of four persons at Rimi Village led to the rescue of all victims and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 13 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
Major Zhakom reiterated the Joint Task Force’s commitment to sustaining pressure on criminal elements and ensuring the safety of citizens across all operational areas.
