“I’m Not Proud of My Past” – Pastor Enoch Adeboye Says God Can Change Anyone

The General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Worldwide, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has declared that he is not proud of his past, describing his life journey as clear evidence that God can change anyone, no matter how troubled their history may be, www.cjsoftflix.com reports.

Pastor Adeboye, who is 83 years old, made the disclosure on Saturday while ministering on day five of the Holy Ghost Congress 2025 at the Redemption City along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

The week-long spiritual gathering is themed “God of All Flesh” and has drawn thousands of worshippers from across Nigeria and beyond, including traditional rulers and dignitaries.

“Many Never Thought I Could Be Saved”

Reflecting on his early years, the revered cleric revealed that many people who knew him as a young man never believed he could become born again, let alone serve as a pastor.

According to Adeboye, even after he claimed to have given his life to Christ, doubts persisted among those who knew his past, with many questioning whether God could truly use him for spiritual leadership.

He said:

“Do you think there is anybody in your family who is too far gone that God cannot save his soul? Do you think there is anybody that God cannot turn into a great vessel unto honour? The man talking to you right now, many people never thought I could be saved. Even if I was saved at all, they never thought I could be a pastor.

You don’t know who is in front of you. I’m not proud of my past; if one can be bad, I was bad.”

Shocking Encounter With a Former Girlfriend

Pastor Adeboye further shared a personal story involving a former girlfriend who was stunned to discover that he had become a pastor.

Recounting the incident, he said:

“I have told you my story before. A former girlfriend of mine came to the room and said, ‘I want to see the pastor,’ and I said, ‘I’m the pastor.’ She was shocked.

She said, ‘You, a pastor? You mean you will pray and God will answer?’”

The RCCG leader also narrated a reunion with a former classmate decades after their university days, who could barely hide her surprise at his transformation.

“Not too long ago, I met a former classmate we hadn’t seen since we left the university in 1967. She said, ‘You, na wa ooo.’ I replied, ‘Me too, I’m surprised,’” he said, noting they avoided further discussion as her son was present.

Childhood Story and Reconciliation

Adeboye also spoke about a childhood incident where he orchestrated the separation between his uncle and his wife after she maltreated him, stressing that reconciliation eventually followed years later.

He explained:

“On one occasion, my uncle’s wife mistreated me badly. As small as I was then, I told her I would get you out of this house, and I did.

Thank God we met again after I became the General Overseer; we reconciled, and all her children are now pastors in the church here.”

“Nobody Is Beyond God’s Saving Grace”

Emphasising the core message of redemption, Pastor Adeboye told worshippers that no life is too broken for God to transform and no individual is beyond divine mercy.

“There is nobody God cannot save,” the cleric said, urging believers never to give up on anyone regardless of their past or present condition.
