Fubara pushing Rivers towards fresh crisis, says Speaker
Rivers Assembly Speaker Accuses Governor Fubara of Lying, Fueling Fresh Crisis
The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly,
Martin Amaewhule, has accused Governor
Siminalayi Fubara of deliberately sidelining lawmakers and “setting the stage for another crisis” in the state. As always, www.cjsoftflix.com
brings you the latest political updates with clarity and depth.
Amaewhule, alongside 10 lawmakers, addressed journalists in Port Harcourt on Thursday, responding to the governor’s earlier claims regarding stalled peace efforts facilitated by FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Fubara had stated on Wednesday that Wike had not yet fulfilled his promise to arrange a reconciliation meeting between him and lawmakers loyal to the former governor. During a project inauguration, Fubara insisted he remained committed to peace and ready to engage with the legislators.
Amaewhule Counters: “The Governor Lied”
Reacting strongly, Amaewhule accused Fubara of misinforming the public and being “reactionary,” using the state of education as an example of alleged governance failures.
According to the Speaker, multiple peace meetings had already been held—both in Abuja and Port Harcourt—and were attended by Fubara and the lawmakers. He insisted the governor was fully aware of these reconciliatory efforts.
Amaewhule further alleged that since taking office, Governor Fubara had refused to cooperate with the Assembly, including spending from the
2024 and
2025 budgets without legislative approval.
“Preparing Grounds for Crisis” — Speaker Claims
The Speaker accused Fubara of reneging on agreements previously reached during peace talks. He warned that the governor’s actions were gradually “preparing the grounds for another round of crisis,” even as the Assembly remained committed to peace and President Bola Tinubu’s
Renewed Hope agenda.
He also alleged that the governor intended to misuse the
N600bn left in state coffers by the former emergency administrator, Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), claiming Fubara planned to use the money “to divide lawmakers and for other frivolities.”
Amaewhule urged Fubara to “brace up to be the true leader Rivers people desire,” insisting the public had suffered too long due to what he described as the governor’s “indolence.”
“We Must Set the Record Straight”
In his detailed rebuttal, Amaewhule said:
“A lie told often enough becomes the truth, which is why I must set the record straight. The governor’s claim that meetings were never held is false. Wike summoned multiple sessions—both in Abuja and at Chief Ferdinand Alabraba’s residence in Port Harcourt.”
He questioned how many more meetings Fubara expected before admitting progress had been made.
Budget Controversy and Contract Allegations
The Speaker went further to accuse Governor Fubara of:
- Refusing to present the 2025 budget to the Assembly
- Spending state funds without legislative approval since September
- Awarding contracts to individuals allegedly involved in the attack on the House of Assembly
- Operating state finances “from his front pockets”
Amaewhule emphasized that the Assembly was not for sale, insisting lawmakers would not be swayed by money or political manipulation.
“Disparaging Wike Is Not Leadership”
The Speaker heavily criticized Fubara’s leadership style, claiming the governor had resorted to using “attack dogs” on social media to insult lawmakers.
According to him, political allies of the governor were being funded to appear on television and undermine the Assembly.
He maintained that such actions would only worsen tensions and fail to restore the peace Rivers people desperately sought.
