Don Jazzy slams critics for dragging woman who received his donation

Don Jazzy Slams Critics Over Donation to Itohan, Defends Right to Help Freely

Popular Nigerian music executive Michael Collins Ajereh, widely known as Don Jazzy, has fired back at social media critics who attacked a young woman, Itohan Supremos Baby (handle: #itohan_olat), following his private donation to support her health-focused initiative.

According to reports monitored by www.cjsoftflix.com , the backlash erupted after Don Jazzy quietly supported Itohan’s plan to assist people battling serious health challenges, particularly kidney patients. Some social media users, however, labelled her “greedy” and even accused her of running a scam after news of the donation surfaced.

Don Jazzy Responds to Claims of Encouraging “Bad Behaviour”

The criticism intensified when an X user, #maxvayshia, tweeted that men often encourage bad behaviour in women, insisting that Itohan did not deserve Don Jazzy’s attention, let alone financial support.

Responding firmly, Don Jazzy dismissed the allegation and defended his decision to help, saying:

“Don’t do that. What exactly did she do wrong? I like to help people when I can. I asked for her wish, and she stated she wants to help people, too.”

He explained that once the online dragging began, he reached out privately to shield her from prolonged attacks on the timeline, stressing that she owed nobody an explanation.

“She didn’t need to come back to the timeline to tell you guys anything. She doesn’t owe anyone anything. Is she a government official?” he added.

Clarifying Allegations of Gender Bias in His Philanthropy

Don Jazzy also addressed claims that he only supports women, referencing his earlier ₦20 million donation in November to the Tech Access Project initiated by Ayilola Ayotomiwa, aimed at providing laptops to 10,000 youths.

“Is the 20m laptop brother a woman too?” he asked sarcastically, shutting down the gender-based narrative.

How the Controversy Started

Our correspondent reports that the controversy began on December 11 when Itohan tweeted:

“I wish that #DONJAZZY would just ask me what I need for Christmas. I promise, I won’t be greedy.”

Don Jazzy replied playfully, asking her what she wanted. Itohan then listed her needs, which included clearing personal debts and launching a “Mercy Foundation” to help kidney patients with dialysis bills, inspired by the death of her brother from kidney disease.

While Don Jazzy initially joked about the long-term cost of such a request, public reaction quickly turned hostile, with many accusing Itohan of being entitled and greedy.

Supporters Push Back Against the Backlash

Despite the criticism, some users defended Itohan. One supporter, #adetunbiowolabi, argued that her request was not selfish but impact-driven, questioning why helping others was being misinterpreted as greed.

Amid the uproar, Don Jazzy went ahead to send Itohan a substantial private donation. She later shared a receipt showing six zeros, with part of the amount blurred, suggesting it could range from hundreds of thousands to millions of naira, though she did not disclose the exact figure.

“Unfortunately, I Can’t Help Everybody” – Don Jazzy

Still responding to the backlash, Don Jazzy criticised the culture of entitlement online, noting that generosity often attracts hostility rather than appreciation.

“That’s one of the reasons I don’t have an NGO,” he explained, adding that it is impossible to satisfy everyone in need.

He also clapped back at users who complained about not receiving help, including one who accused him of favouritism, to which Don Jazzy bluntly replied: “Come beat me collect am.”

Tech Access Project Organiser Speaks Out

Meanwhile, the organiser of the Tech Access Project revealed that the ₦20 million donation brought intense backlash, describing the experience as emotionally draining. He disclosed that his team added 15 extra laptops worth ₦3.9 million from their own funds to ensure transparency and accountability.

Despite this, he admitted that online attacks left him exhausted and broken at times, adding that encouragement from Don Jazzy and beneficiaries kept him going.

Itohan Begins Dialysis Support With Don Jazzy’s Donation

Itohan has since expressed deep gratitude to Don Jazzy and outlined how the funds are being used to assist dialysis patients, starting in Abuja.

So far, ₦350,000 has been spent directly on patients, including:

  • ₦200,000 paid to a hospital for Amadi Faith Kelechi
  • ₦150,000 paid for Fakutiju Solomon’s dialysis sessions

Both patients publicly thanked Don Jazzy for his support, while Itohan described the ordeal as worth it, saying the help has already begun saving lives.
