BREAKING: Adeleke joins Accord party
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke Joins Accord Party, Declares Second-Term Ambition
Osun State Governor,
Ademola Adeleke, has officially defected to the Accord Party, just days after announcing his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The declaration was made on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, where national and state leaders of the Accord Party were present.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke also confirmed that he will be seeking re-election in the 2026 governorship election under the platform of the Accord Party, which he described as the “Thumb-Up” party.
According to the governor, he had secretly joined the Accord Party over a month ago.
He said, “I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely on November 6, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026. This was after weeks of consultation and deliberations with stakeholders and opinion leaders. Stakeholders and residents of Osun State are aware of why we are taking this important decision.”
Adeleke added that the Accord Party’s philosophy of welfarism aligns perfectly with his administration’s focus on improving citizens’ and workers’ welfare.
Adeleke Highlights Accord Party’s Alignment With His Governance Style
Speaking further, the governor said, “Since I joined the party more than a month ago, I have been fascinated by the philosophy of this great party. The focus on people’s welfare should always be at the heart of public leadership. The primary essence of government is the welfare and well-being of the people.”
He welcomed Accord Party leaders to the Osun State Government House, assuring them that the party now represents a united platform for progress and inclusive leadership ahead of the 2026 elections.
“At this historical point, our task is to sustain a united front as we prepare for the elections. We have a duty to ensure inclusive leadership where the interests of all groups are considered,” he said.
Adeleke also expressed confidence that the Accord Party will secure victory across all zones of Osun, including Igbomina, Ijeshaland, Ifeland, Osogbo, Iwoland, Modakeke, Gbongan, Igbajo, Ikire, Ikirun, and Ede.
He declared that Osun citizens—who voted for good governance in 2022—will support continuity in 2026 under the Accord Party.
“In accordance with the will of our stakeholders and to accord deep respect for the wishes of the Osun people, I hereby declare for the Accord Party,” he concluded.
Why Adeleke Left the PDP
Governor Adeleke resigned from the PDP on December 1, citing prolonged leadership crises at the national level. He revealed that he submitted his resignation letter earlier on November 4, 2025, to PDP officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government.
In his Instagram post, Adeleke said, “Due to the ongoing crisis within the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (#OfficialPDPNig) at the national level, I officially conveyed my resignation letter as a member to the party leadership… I thank the party and its many members and supporters for the opportunities they have provided me, first as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and now as Governor of Osun State.”
With his formal move to the Accord Party, political analysts expect a major shift in Osun’s political landscape as the countdown to the 2026 election intensifies.
