The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, is set to install Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland on Saturday, December 21, 2025.
On the same occasion, the revered monarch will also confer the title of Obaloyin of Yorubaland on Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari, who represents Zamfara West Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
The chieftaincy installations were disclosed in a flier obtained by www.cjsoftflix.com on Wednesday, which has since been circulating across various social media platforms.
According to the flier, the Alaafin and his wife, Ayaba Abiwumi Owoade, formally invited members of the public to witness the historic ceremony and urged guests to save the date for the prestigious event scheduled for Saturday.
The title “Okanlomo of Yorubaland” is one of high cultural significance among the Yoruba people, meaning “the beloved child” or “one dear to the hearts of all Yoruba people,” symbolising affection, honour, and importance within the race.
Confirming the development in a telephone conversation, the Alaafin’s media aide, Bode Durojaiye, affirmed that preparations for the installation were complete and that the ceremony would hold as announced.
“Yes, it is true. The Alaafin of Oyo will install Seyi Tinubu as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland and Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari as the Obaloyin of Yorubaland. The press statement on the event will be released anytime soon,” Durojaiye said.
The planned installation comes months after the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, bestowed the title of Okanlomo of Oodua on Ibadan-born philanthropist and Bada Olubadan designate, Dotun Sanusi.
That conferment had initially sparked a supremacy debate between the Alaafin of Oyo and the Ooni of Ife, a development that was later resolved by prominent Yoruba stakeholders to preserve unity and cultural harmony across Yorubaland.
In a related development, the Ooni of Ife recently conferred the prestigious chieftaincy title of Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua on First Lady Oluremi Tinubu at the Ooni’s palace in Ile-Ife.
Mrs Tinubu arrived at the palace amid heightened security and cultural fanfare, where she was received by the monarch and his chiefs during a ceremony held at the Palace Square.
The event coincided with activities marking Oba Ogunwusi’s 10th coronation anniversary and attracted notable dignitaries from across Nigeria.
The title Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua carries deep historical significance, having been previously held by Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, wife of the late nationalist leader Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
It is widely regarded as a recognition of leadership, influence, and meaningful contributions to society within the Yoruba cultural and political space.
